I’m a copycat

February 19, 2009 · 2 Comments

I’m copying off of Trace’s blog and doing Q&A thing since I can’t think of anything else.

What are your middles names?
Kae for me.  Lynn for D.  He hates that because he thinks it’s a girl’s name.  I like Kae because it’s spelled uniquely.

How long have you been together?
3.5 years, 2 married.

How long did you know each other before you started dating?
About six months.

Who asked whom out?
After I had worked in the group for about a month, D asked me to go to a car show, but I didn’t go.  Then a couple months later, we went to the movies, but just as friends, even though D asked me if I wanted it to be a date.  I said that wouldn’t be good since we worked together.  We continued to hang out for a couple months and then eventually it became dating.  We didn’t tell our manager until we were engaged though.

How old are each of you?
28.  I’m 3 months older so that makes me a sugar mama, right?  :-)

Whose siblings do you see the most?
Mine, I guess, although we don’t see either much.

Which situation is hardest on you as a couple?
I don’t really know.  We never fight.  D’s debt is annoying, but we don’t actually fight about it, I just make endless spreadsheet’s predicting when it will reach its demise (this year, except for the cars and the house, woo hoo!).

Did you go to the same school?
Nope.  He is from the suburbs in TX, me from a farm in MO

Are you from the same home town?
Nope.

Who is smarter?
Probably me.  I’m definitely the better student.  D is very smart, but he doesn’t try that hard.

Who is the most sensitive?
Probably me, but I don’t think of either of us as very sensitive.

Where do you eat out most as a couple?
For fast food, probably Qdoba.  For more of a sit down place, Red Robin.  We rarely go anywhere fancy because I’m cheap.

Where is the furthest you have travelled together as a couple?
Well, we went to the Bahamas for our honeymoon, but I think the furthest we have travelled is when we moved here.  It was 2,222 miles.  I remember that because that’s with Boeing reimbursed me for and I thought it was interesting.  While living in TX, we took a 10 day road trip to Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks, and just camped.  After we survived that, I guess getting married was a no brainer.  :-)

Who has the craziest exes?
D didn’t date much so I don’t know any stories there, so it’s definitely me.

Who has the worst temper?
Me.  I get annoyed at people often although I don’t usually tell them.

Who does the cooking?
Me unless it’s grilling.

Who is the neat freak?
Me, but I’ve had to let it go since D and the dogs.  D doesn’t seem to know where the trash can is, even though it hasn’t moved since we moved in.

Who is more stubborn?
We both are and we always think we are right.  It’s a good thing we agree on most points.

Who hogs the bed?
I always sleep in the middle, but I swear, it’s because S&K make me!!  I definitely hog the covers.  When I roll over, they magically come with me.

Who wakes up earlier?
Me, D would sleep all day if I didn’t bring the dogs in to jump on him at 10 on the weekends.

Where was your first date?
Our first official date was to Bueno Braza (I think that’s spelled right), in Grapevine, TX.

Who is more jealous?
Probably me, but not much.

How long did it take to get serious?
We were pretty much serious from the time we started dating because I had fought it for so long, worried that it would be disastrous at work.

Who eats more?
D

Who does the laundry?
Me.  I didn’t at first, we each did our own, but somehow we have combined.  I think since leaving TX and not having room for separate laundry baskets in the closet.

Who’s better with the computer?
I’d say this is equal.  D is more curious though and usually finds the tricks and shortcuts.

Who drives when you are together?
D.  He prefers it that way and so do I.  I can play on my iPhone.

Notes – High School

February 12, 2009 · 1 Comment

To answer a question, D hasn’t gotten a decision on his law school application. He didn’t get his in as soon as I did, so we expect to hear something on him within a couple weeks. His undergrad GPA wasn’t too great, so we are both really hoping he gets in, but he may be more on the bubble.

Now, I have avoided all other notes so far on Facebook, but I guess I shouldn’t. However, I don’t have time to keep up with all of these sites, so I’m just going to do this one here.

Fill this out about your SENIOR year of high school! The longer ago it was, the more fun the answers will be!! At the end, choose 10 people (or more) to be tagged. You have to tag the person who tagged you. If I tagged you, it’s because I want to know more about you.

(To do this, go to “notes” under the tabs on your profile page, copy and paste my note in the body of the note, delete my answers and type yours, tag 10 people (in the right hand corner of the app). Then click publish.)

IN YOUR SENIOR YEAR DID YOU…
1. Did you date someone from your school? No, I dated someone who had already graduated from my school.

2. Did you marry someone from your high school? No

3. Did you car pool to school? Yes, I picked up my best friend every day.

4. What kind of car did you have? 1989 Pontiac LeMans. It was uber cool and I bought it from my grandpa for $35.

5. What kind of car do you have now? 2007 Honda Civic SI

6. Its Friday night…where are you now? Home with D and the furries.

7. It is Friday night…where were you then? At home.

8. What kind of job did you have in high school? Babysitting

9. What kind of job do you do now? Business Process and Systems Analyst. (It’s okay, I don’t know what that means either.)

10. Were you a party animal? No, the furthest thing from it.

11. Were you considered a flirt? No, I hardly ever spoke

12. Were you in band, orchestra, or choir? Not my senior year, but I was in band before that.

13. Were you a nerd? Yes

14. Did you get suspended or expelled? No

15. Can you sing the fight song? No, I can’t even think of it.

16. Who was/were your favorite teacher(s)? My math teacher, who I was afraid of, but I still liked her although I can’t remember her name.

17. Where did you sit during lunch? At the table in the corner of the cafeteria with Christy, Sarah and Sarah.

18. What was your school’s full name? Liberal High School (It was not liberal)

19. When did you graduate? 1998

20. What was your school mascot? Bulldog

21. If you could go back and do it again, would you? No.

22. Did you have fun at Prom? I guess. I hated my dress. And I walked into a hanging flower basket and my hair fell down.

23. Do you still talk to the person you went to Prom with? No, but my sister and her husband are like best friends with him and his wife.

24. Are you planning on going to your next reunion? No. There was one this past summer. I think if anyone wants to talk to me or me to then, I will make an effort to do it outside a reunion.

25. Do you still talk to people from school? One. Unless I see them when I visit my parents.

26. School Colors? Red/black

27. What celebrities came from your high school? Pretty much no one. We did have a Miss Missouri USA from our town and two guys who travelled internationally representing the USA in automotive repair for college age student competitions though.

I’m in!

February 10, 2009 · 3 Comments

I checked my application status today and finally it was updated. I have been admitted into law school. Of course, now they want me to send them some money, but I’m waiting for the official paper letter in the mail to get the instructions.

I never thought I wouldn’t be accepted since I knew I was above their averages, but now that it’s official, I’m starting to worry if I can really handle it.

Should I get a new iPhone?

January 27, 2009 · 4 Comments

I have a first generation 8GB iPhone. I love it more than a person should love a phone. It’s wonderful. I got it in October 2007, after the first price decrease. I’ve always been very happy with it, even after the 3G iPhones came out last summer. Then the App Store opened and there are now all these cool workout apps that require the iPhone 3G since it has GPS. I still told myself that there was nothing wrong with my iPhone and maybe when the next iPhone comes out I could upgrade then.

So I was all logical and proud of myself. Until I looked at eBay this weekend. There is an insane market for used first generation iPhones. I’ve been watching some auctions for iPhones that match what I would write about mine and they are all selling for between $250 to just over $300. I can buy a 16GB iPhone 3G for $300. I googled this phenomenon and discovered that only the first generation iPhones have been able to be unlocked, so that seems to be driving the demand.

So I’ve decided to put my current iPhone up on eBay. It still works great and if I can sell it for $300, why not sell it and get a new iPhone 3G for the same price?

Am I insane?

Diet Status

January 18, 2009 · 1 Comment

Since Maryann asked me how the whole diet thing is going, I thought I’d post an update. So my goal is to lose 15 pounds, which would put me back to what I weighed when we left Texas. I just want to be able to fit into all my clothes again. I have some cute skirts for work and I can’t fit into them because my butt has gotten just a bit too big. So that’s my goal. D wants to lose 50 pounds. I swear, if I needed to lose 50 pounds, it would really show, but he needs to lose 50 pounds and frankly, it doesn’t show that much. When he’s got his shirt off, you can see the chubbiness, but when he’s dressed, he doesn’t really look 50 pounds over. His BMI is in the obese category, which is hard for me to believe because I don’t think of him as obese. Anyway, that’s what we are working on. Today marks one week on the nutrisystem plan. I lost 3 pounds this week, D lost 8. I only worked out twice (mostly because the second time I worked out, I ran with the dogs and then pretty much was so sore I couldn’t walk the rest of the week). This week I want to try to exercise more, because I probably can’t keep up losing 3 pounds per week without doing exercise.

Nutrisystem is really easy and most of the food is pretty good. I’ve had a couple things I didn’t like, but I’m also a picky eater, so I expected that. For the most part, I’m not that hungry. For breakfast, I’m supposed to eat one Nutrisystem breakfast item, a dairy serving and a fruit serving. I ended up not eating my fruit serving until about 9AM because I was getting really hungry before lunch. In the afternoon, there is a snack planned into the diet.

So that’s the low-down. I don’t think it will take me too long to lose the 15 pounds, but I’ll probably stay on the NS foods until D finishes his program. He doesn’t have a lot of will power, so if I’m not eating it, it would be hard for him to continue eating the foods.

Pet Stuff

January 6, 2009 · 2 Comments

Yesterday was our 9/80 day off, so D and I took S and K to the vet. Last summer, we took W to a different vet than S&K were seeing and I liked them, so we switched S&K over there for their yearly checkup. We saw a different person this time and boy, S was infatuated with her. S is friendly with everyone, but he usually just sits and accepts some head rubs. However, with the new vet, he was giving her the paw, rolling over to show her his tummy, giving kisses (something he rarely does), the whole thing. It was apparently love at first sight. Then when it was K’s turn to be examined, S threw a big fit and was so jealous while D held him back from interfering. After K’s exam, the vet went back and gave S some more love. It was nuts. I liked how the vet got on the floor with the dogs, but S’s reaction also tells me that she must be a pretty good vet! This vet also takes pictures of the patients and she said, “Oh this part usually take a bit.” Little did she know that S&K are experienced and well-photographed. They took perfect pictures, even K!

I’m back on the hunt for a place to board the dogs when we go to a wedding back in Texas in March. I have narrowed things down to two places and I’m trying to set up tours for this weekend. I have run into a new problem though. I need an emergency contact here in case something happens. I have no idea who to put down. We have people we know, but no one I would really trust to take care of S&K. I know I’m really overprotective, but that’s just the way it goes. I know people with dogs, but I don’t know if I can ask them to be the contact because K would probably be mean to their dogs. So I have no idea what I’m going to do. We used to board them a lot in Texas and never had any problems, so the likelihood that anything would happen while we are gone for 48 hours isn’t great, but I still worry about it and have to figure out who to put down.

Just to end this post on a complete downer, last week I hear d that one of my coworker’s mom died over the Christmas break. I felt bad for her, but her mom had been in the hospital for a while and was in her 70s, so it wasn’t a complete surprise. However, today I found out that my coworker’s dog died the day after her mom. Her dog was hit by a car after taking off after a raccoon. I feel so bad for her. I’m not sure what it says about me that I am more upset about the dog than the mother, but maybe it’s that the dog was just completely unexpected and if my coworker ever needed her dog to comfort her, it’s now. Anyway, it’s just not a good time for her.

So just a reminder, keep your pets leashed! Since I have Siberian huskies, the mantra about not letting your Sibe off-leash in an unsecured area has been drilled into my head and I’m obsessive about it. But even other breeds will run off if given the right distraction. It’s just not worth the risk.

2009!

January 2, 2009 · 3 Comments

Happy New Year! I didn’t really make any resolutions this year. I know I need to workout more (since I’m at zero now) and I want to lose 10-15 pounds. But I didn’t make a formal resolution to do it. D made the resolution that he’s going to lose 40 pounds. He has been saying that since before we got married. It started out that he wanted to lose the weight before the honeymoon so he wouldn’t be embarrassed on the beach. That didn’t happen, but he was still good and let me take pictures of us. I didn’t want to take many because I was wearing a bikini (for the first time in my life) and I felt really self-conscious. He’s tried other diets along the way, but he is not good at controlling portions. I’ve tried just cooking healthy foods, but even healthy foods aren’t healthy when you eat too much of them. So over the Christmas break, he saw a commercial for Nutrisystem and declared that he is going to do that. So we both ordered our Nutrisystem. I think it would be way too difficult for him to stick with his program if I was eating regular food, plus this should help me lose the 10 pounds I’ve gained in the last year since moving up here. Nutrisystem seems like a good plan, but I don’t know how anyone could do it if they have kids or a spouse who wasn’t participating. Especially for women if you had to prepare regular food for your family and then eat boring diet food yourself.

In other news, we joined Netflix and D has been obsessed with watching movies. If I am cleaning or just wanting the TV on for sound, I would rather watch some show on DIY or HGTV. D will always pick a movie and it doesn’t matter if the movie is in the middle or even near the end. He just wants a movie. It drives me nuts. One cool thing about Netflix is that you can watch some movies instantly through either your computer or a Netflix device. The Xbox 360 is considered a Netflix device, so we’ve watched several things through that. The best thing was this documentary called “King of Kong”. It was about the competitive video game world. I wasn’t too into it at the beginning, but it was excellent and by the end I was totally into it. We’ve also watched Tropic Thunder (good, but the best part was the beginning), Wall-E (okay, but not as good as Toy Story or Cars), and The Incredible Hulk (honestly, I didn’t pay a lot of attention to this one).

Now, after working for one day, I am ready for the weekend. It’s my three day weekend, so I won’t be back to work until Tuesday, which should make K happy since she was all pouty this morning. She knew I was going to work as soon as she came inside and discovered me putting on real clothes (which should give you an indication of how I spent my break).

An indication of things to come?

December 15, 2008 · 3 Comments

I hope this isn’t an indication of how my week will go this week…

I have a routine in the shower. I do things in the same order every time. Shampoo, rinse, apply conditioner, wash face, rinse fase, soap body, rinse conditioner and body, done. Well last night when I showered, I got in, squirted shampoo on my hands and promptly applied it to my face. It dawned on me that I was not supposed to put shampoo on my face and I rinsed it off. Then instead of getting more shampoo to apply to my hair, I put conditioner in my hand. At least I realized what I did before I put that in my hair. Finally I managed to get back on track and finish my shower.

So now the question is… will my entire week be like that?

I will be working until I am 100

December 10, 2008 · 3 Comments

I used this retirement calculator online and discovered that if D and I want to retire at age 65, we have to have $3.5Million in savings. Awesome. I feel like that will never happen. I put money into my 401K every paycheck and since about June, the balance has been the same. So basically my contributions are just offsetting the losses. I really want to retire before I’m too old to do anything, so if I want to retire at say 50, we need $3.9Million. Maybe I should set that as our goal. It seems about as attainable as the $3.5Million.

Suze Orman say that people at my age should be enjoying the lower stock market because we can just buy more shares and we have lots of time until retirement. So lets see if she’s right and I ever get to retire.
